چکیده

1 In multi-agent systems (MAS), coalition formation is typically studied using characteristic function game (CFG) representations, where the performance of any coalition is independent from co-existing coalitions in the system. However, in a number of environments, there are significant externalities from coalition formation where the effectiveness of one coalition may be affected by the formation of other distinct coalitions. In such cases, coalition formation can be modeled using partition function game (PFG) representations. In PFGs, to accurately generate an optimal division of agents into coalitions (so called CSG problem), one would have to search through the entire search space of coalition structures since, in a general case, one cannot predict the values of the coalitions affected by the externalities a priori. In this paper we consider four distinct PFG settings and prove that in such environments one can bound the values of every coalition. From this insight, which bridges the gap between PFG and CFG environments, we modify the existing state-of-the-art anytime CSG algorithm for the CFG setting and show how this approach can be used to generate the optimal CS in the PFG settings.

Coalitional Structure Generation in Skill Games

We consider optimizing the coalition structure in Coalitional Skill Games (CSGs), a succinct representation of coalitional games (Bachrach and Rosenschein 2008). In CSGs, the value of a coalition depends on the tasks its members can achieve. The tasks require various skills to complete them, and agents may have different skill sets. The optimal coalition structure is a partition of the agents t...

Optimal Coalition Structure Generation in Cooperative Graph Games

Representation languages for coalitional games are a key research area in algorithmic game theory. There is an inherent tradeoff between how general a language is, allowing it to capture more elaborate games, and how hard it is computationally to optimize and solve such games. One prominent such language is the simple yet expressive Weighted Graph Games (WGGs) representation (Deng and Papadimit...

Complexity of coalition structure generation

We revisit the coalition structure generation problem in which the goal is to partition the players into exhaustive and disjoint coalitions so as to maximize the social welfare. One of our key results is a general polynomial-time algorithm to solve the problem for all monotonic coalitional games provided that player types are known and the number of player types is bounded by a constant. As a c...

k-Coalitional Cooperative Games

In most previous models of coalition structure generation, it is assumed that agents may partition themselves into any coalition structure. In practice, however, there may be physical and organizational constraints that limit the number of co-existing coalitions. In this paper, we introduce k-coalitional games: a type of partition function game especially designed to model such situations. We p...

Optimal Coalition Structures in Graph Games

We consider the problem of finding the optimal coalition structure in Weighted Graph Games (WGGs), a simple restricted representation of coalitional games [12]. The agents in such games are vertices of the graph, and the value of a coalition is the sum of the weights of the edges present between coalition members. The optimal coalition structure is a partition of the agents to coalitions, that ...
